What is ground frost?

Ground frost occurs when air close to the ground falls below freezing during the night or morning. CHMI measures the ground-level minimum at 5 cm above the ground.

How to read the risk categories

These are internal indicative Fakt počasí thresholds, version 2. They are not CHMI thresholds or a verified probability of frost or plant damage.

Forecast category rules
CategoryCondition
Frost at 2 mNightly minimum at 2 m ≤ 0 °C.
Ground frost possibleMinimum at 2 m > 0 to ≤ 3 °C; at the coldest hour cloud cover ≤ 30 % and wind < 7.2 km/h (2 m/s).
No frost signal in the modelA complete night with the required inputs known that does not meet the preceding rules. This does not rule out local ground frost.
UnknownThe night is not fully covered or required data is missing. A missing temperature does not mean zero.

Threshold source: indicative Fakt počasí service rules, version 2. The server calculates categories; dew point is not used in frost assessment.

The category does not describe how a particular plant tolerates frost.

How do we know?

This is a deterministic forecast from the Fakt počasí API for the selected point, not a measurement in your field. Inversion is only estimated from clear skies and light wind, not a measured temperature profile.

Terrain and crops can change local conditions. Historical rainfall, evaporation and water balance are unavailable in this forecast.
